Spectrum Down? Spectrum Network Status in Real Time
Status computed from public network signals (BGP and active probes) on Spectrum's infrastructure, updated every ~10 minutes. This is not an official Spectrum channel.
Is Spectrum down right now? If the badge below is red, there's likely a fault on Spectrum's cable network in your region; if it's green but your modem is dark, the problem is more likely your local drop or your own equipment. To settle it in under a minute: read the live badge just below, compare reports on Downdetector, and run a speed test from your phone on cellular data (Wi-Fi off).

Network trend over the last 24 hours
The chart shows the network signal level (BGP reachability and active probes) relative to the median of the last 24 hours: full bars = normal, low bars = possible outage.
What to do if Spectrum is down
Spectrum (Charter) runs a cable/HFC DOCSIS network: coax into your home, fiber back through neighborhood nodes to regional hubs, assembled from the former Time Warner Cable and Bright House systems. Spectrum Mobile is a separate service that rides on Verizon's cellular network. Because cable is a shared medium, most Spectrum problems are local to your node or region rather than nationwide.
If the badge above shows a regional outage, the fix is a truck roll or a hub repair that happens centrally — waiting is usually the only option, so tether to your phone for anything urgent. If the badge is green, work the problem at home:
- Reboot the modem: unplug it for 60 seconds, plug it back in, and give it two to three minutes to re-range. If you rent Spectrum equipment you can also restart it from the My Spectrum app.
- Watch the modem lights: the Online light should be solid. If the downstream/upstream lights keep blinking and won't lock, the modem can't sync with the node.
- Check the coax connectors are finger-tight at the wall plate and the modem, and remove any unnecessary splitter — a loose or corroded connector is a classic cause of dropouts.
- Plug a computer straight into the modem to separate a line or modem fault from a Wi-Fi problem.
Why Spectrum goes down: typical causes
Cable is a shared medium, so a single neighborhood node serves many homes off the same coax segment — and that shapes how Spectrum fails. The common patterns are evening congestion when a node is oversubscribed (speeds sag at peak, worst on the upstream), noise and ingress on the coax that knock the modem offline, and amplifier or power-supply faults in the outdoor plant that take a whole street dark. Weather matters more than it does on fiber: water in a tap or a corroded connector can drop your signal after heavy rain. Larger regional outages usually trace back to a hub site or the fiber backbone linking the nodes.
Spectrum Mobile is a different animal. It rides on Verizon's cellular network, so a mobile problem there is unrelated to your home cable line — and your home internet can be fine while Spectrum Mobile struggles, or the other way around.
Is it me or Spectrum?
The reliable tie-breaker is a measurement. With Wi-Fi off, run a speed test on your phone over cellular, then run one from a computer plugged into the modem. If cellular is fine but the wired test won't complete, the fault is on your line or Spectrum's plant; if the wired test is strong and only Wi-Fi is shaky, your wireless is the ceiling. A neighbor on Spectrum makes a good witness — a node fault knocks out a cluster of homes together.
Being slow isn't being down. A wired result that always trails your plan is a performance matter, not an outage — and mind your units, since a 1,000 Mbps Spectrum plan resolves to about 125 MB/s in a download manager rather than 1,000. Our US ISP speed test guide walks through recording a shortfall.
How to contact Spectrum and check the official status
Spectrum's support number is 1-833-267-6094, and the My Spectrum app flags outages in your area, restarts your gear and files reports. To gauge the reach of a problem, line the reports on Downdetector up with the badge here; a "Spectrum outage" search including your city on social media usually shows within minutes whether only your node or the whole region is hit. After a long outage, phone in and ask for a bill credit — Spectrum won't add one by itself.
FAQ
How do I know if Spectrum is down right now?
The badge near the top is calculated from public network signals over Spectrum's ranges and updates about every ten minutes. Red suggests a regional outage on the cable plant; green while your modem stays dark usually means a local drop or an equipment issue. Confirm against Downdetector reports and a cellular speed test before you settle on an answer.
My Spectrum modem's Online light is blinking — what does that mean?
The Online light should be solid once the modem has locked onto the node. If the downstream and upstream lights keep blinking and won't go solid, the modem can't range with the node — usually a signal, coax or plant issue rather than something you can fix by changing settings. Reboot once, check the coax connectors are finger-tight, and if it still won't lock it is likely a line or node fault.
Does Spectrum run its own network?
Yes. Spectrum (Charter) operates its own cable/HFC DOCSIS plant, consolidated from the former Time Warner Cable and Bright House networks, so its outages are usually independent of other carriers and local to a node or region. Spectrum Mobile is the exception: it runs on Verizon's cellular network, so a mobile problem there is unrelated to your home cable line.
Why does Spectrum slow down every evening?
Cable is a shared medium: one neighborhood node serves many homes off the same coax segment. When that node is oversubscribed, speeds sag during peak evening hours — typically worst on the upstream. If you only see it at peak and a wired test is fine at other times, report it; Spectrum can split or upgrade a congested node.
Spectrum is slow but not fully down — what should I do?
Run one test wired into the modem and one over Wi-Fi. If the wired figure is healthy, your Wi-Fi is the limit (channel congestion, router placement, distance). If the wired figure is consistently far below your plan, that is a speed problem rather than an outage — and mind the units, since a 1,000 Mbps Spectrum plan is about 125 MB/s in a download manager.
How long do Spectrum outages last and can I get a credit?
Congestion and small plant faults usually pass within a few hours; an amplifier, power-supply or hub failure that needs a truck roll runs longer. Because Spectrum doesn't apply outage credits automatically, ring up after a lengthy loss to request one, and keep a record of when it began and how long it ran.
